About Fil Chi Mom

Fil Chi (pronounced as “Phil-chai”) is shorthand for Filipino-Chinese, which commonly refers to people with Chinese heritage but who were born in the Philippines.

When my daughter was born, I knew I wanted to pass on our Chinese heritage to her through language and cultural experiences. As I started my search on bilingual toys and literature, I was shocked by how little is available here in the US. I am an early childhood educator by profession and love working on needle crafts as a hobby.

I realized that if I combined my passion for education, crafts, and my multilingual skills, I can create multilingual, educational, and fun toys for my daughter. I also want to develop and grow connections with other multilingual families as we raise the next generation of global citizens together. This was how Fil Chi Mom was born.

What will you find on the Fil Chi Mom website?

Well, a variety of things, such as our family’s favorite recipes and crafts. However, I hope what you will find most helpful are my blogs that are mostly centered on my homeschooling journey with my daughter. And also, my shop where I design and create handmade bilingual and educational toys for children, amongst other fun little things. Have a look-see and let me know what you think!

What is the goal of the Fil Chi Mom website?

I hope that through Fil Chi Mom, I can contribute to families who are seeking to create a Chinese environment at home, whether it is through bilingual toys or other resources. It takes a village to raise a child. I hope to build and develop an online community of multilingual families who are on a similar journey and together, we can encourage and support one another.
